The Clear Conscience Pet Crunch-O-Meter
We have developed the CCP Crunch-O-Meter™ as a quick and easy guide to our treats. Look up any of our treats in the product section of our website, and you will see what the Crunch Level rating is for that treat!
Crunch-O-Meter Level I:
Tender treats: The softest and easiest to chew and digest of all treats. CCP's tender treat concept, Sliders®, is a very exciting line that breaks new ground in this category. After a limited prior commercial release, Sliders® are under final development prior to being released nationally. Stay tuned to clearconsciencepet.com for a launch announcement in 2012.
Crunch-O-Meter Level II:
Crunchy treats: Bring on the crunch! This category of CCP's treats are oven roasted to a somewhat harder and drier consistency, providing your pet with a "crunch-a-licious" treat experience. This category includes the Clear Conscience PetCC Barkz(tm) line, including our wonderful Bison or Beef Liver Bark OSV™ treats and other similar products. These treats are fully digestible but the roasting process gives them a satisfying crunch that pets love, and gives their teeth and gums more stimulation than a Level One Tender treat. With Level Two treats, use the proper piece size by breaking off only what your pet can easily swallow if they decide not to chew as they sometimes do, because they are so excited by the exquisite aroma and taste. Keep an eye on your pet to make sure they chew and swallow the treat. If in a rare instance, they get a piece too large that gets caught in their mouth or throat, reach onto your pet's mouth and remove the treat.
Level Two treats are fine for cat and ferret use, but use very small pieces of Liver Bark OSV™ to match their tiny mouths.
Crunch-O-Meter Level III:
Chewy treats: The Bouncing Bison™ Scappy Chewz™ category of CCP treats takes the crunch to a different level of chewiness, since the treats are made with natural, clean, minimally processed scapular cartilage from bison or beef. Slow oven-roasted cartilage bakes to a hard but somewhat chewy consistency. Depending on your dog’s chewing style, the treat softens in his mouth and he bites off pieces and swallows them while chewing. Cartilage is fully digestible, but since it is roasted to a hard consistency to provide a satisfying chew, dogs can occasionally bite off a large piece. Therefore, if you hear your dog having trouble with the treat or see them having difficulty swallowing, remove the piece from the dog’s mouth right away. Dogs will vary greatly in their approach to Scappy Chewz™, with some taking their time and perhaps even keeping the treat for more than a day and hiding it around the house (usually smaller dogs), and others chomping them down in 5 minutes or less. Level Three treats from Clear Conscience Pet® are not made for cats or ferrets, and therefore the labels of these treats do not mention cats or ferrets.
Crunch-O-Meter Level IV:
Harder Treats: The CC Chewz™ category of CCP treats are the hardest we sell, but they are still fully digestible when thoroughly chewed. This category includes oven roasted bison or beef tendons (Tendy Chewz™), trachea (Trachey Chewz™), and pizzle (Bully Chewz™) also commonly known as “bully stix.” The nature of these sources means that, when roasted, they cook to a very solid consistency. This provides a very satisfying chewing experience for dogs, and offers the highest level of tooth scraping action and gum stimulation of any CCP treats. The hardness of these treats requires the most supervision, so keep an eye on your dog and don’t put Level Four treats in a dog’s crate and walk away, or leave treats in this category with them when you leave the house. These treats are “gnawed” as much as they are actually chewed. Depending on the dog’s chewing style, these treats would be the longest lasting of CCP’s options. Level Four treats from Clear Conscience Pet® are not made for cats or ferrets, and therefore the labels of these treats do not mention cats or ferrets.
A note on Real Bones: CCP does not currently offer any real bone options. Real bones can be very enjoyable for dogs and provide good dental benefits, but since they are totally non-digestible, the greatest level of caution and supervision must be exercised when giving them real bones.
